USS Pompano was mistakenly bombed by aircraft from USS Enterprise but managed to escape.
USS Tang pictured above, was an ace US submarine… until she literally sank herself with a circular running torpedo.
Oh yeah. These kinds of incidents are quite common even in modern war, let alone back then.
Even Captain James T. Kirk was trapped in a woman's body. Don't you think he'd support trans people?
